ईश्वर उवाच । ततो गच्छेन्महादेवि यत्र जांबवती नदी । पुरा जांबवतीनाम विष्णोर्या महिषीप्रिया । अपृच्छदर्जुनं साध्वी वद वार्तां कुरू द्वह
īśvara uvāca | tato gacchenmahādevi yatra jāṃbavatī nadī | purā jāṃbavatīnāma viṣṇoryā mahiṣīpriyā | apṛcchadarjunaṃ sādhvī vada vārtāṃ kurū dvaha
ഈശ്വരൻ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു—ഹേ മഹാദേവി, തുടർന്ന് ജാംബവതീ നദി ഒഴുകുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തേക്ക് പോകണം. പുരാകാലത്ത് വിഷ്ണുവിന്റെ പ്രിയ മഹിഷി, സാദ്ധ്വിയായ ജാംബവതീ അർജുനനോട് ചോദിച്ചു—‘വാർത്ത പറയുക; സത്യമായി പറയുക, ഒന്നും മറയ്ക്കരുത്।’
