दिनमाना निशा ज्ञेया अहोरात्रं द्वयाद्भवेत् । तैः पंचदशभिः पक्षो द्विपक्षो मास उच्यते
dinamānā niśā jñeyā ahorātraṃ dvayādbhavet | taiḥ paṃcadaśabhiḥ pakṣo dvipakṣo māsa ucyate
രാത്രിയുടെ അളവ് പകലിനോട് സമമാണെന്ന് അറിയണം; ഈ രണ്ടും ചേർന്നാൽ അഹോരാത്രം. അങ്ങനെ പതിനഞ്ച് (ദിവസം) ചേർന്നാൽ പക്ഷം; രണ്ട് പക്ഷം ചേർന്നാൽ മാസം എന്നു പറയുന്നു.
