ईश्वर उवाच । पृथिव्या मध्यगर्भस्थं जंबूद्वीपमिति स्मृतम् । तच्च वै नवधा भिन्नं वर्षभेदेन सुन्दरि

ഈശ്വരൻ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു—പൃഥ്വിയുടെ മദ്ധ്യഗർഭത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നതാണ് ‘ജംബൂദ്വീപം’ എന്നു സ്മൃതിയിൽ പറയുന്നു. ഹേ സുന്ദരി, അത് വർഷഭേദത്താൽ തീർച്ചയായും ഒൻപതായി വിഭജിതമാണ്.
