patnyuvāca | abhukte tvayi no bhuktaṃ kadācitkāṃta vai mayā | ekāṃte'pi mahābhāga na suptaṃ jāgrati tvayi
Wife of the brāhmaṇa
Type: kshetra
Listener: kānta/nātha (husband)
Scene: A devoted wife addresses her husband in a sacred precinct, recalling her lifelong discipline: she never ate before him and never slept while he kept vigil; the atmosphere is intimate yet charged with impending separation.
Marital dharma is portrayed as steadfast solidarity—sharing austerity, vigilance, and hardship as a single spiritual path.
The verse supports the pilgrimage narrative rather than naming a new site; it reinforces the dharmic mood surrounding the tīrtha-journey.
No formal ritual is prescribed; the wife describes a personal vow-like discipline of shared fasting and wakefulness.
