मार्कंडेय उवाच । सत्यमेतन्महाभाग यत्पृष्टोऽस्मि नृपोत्तम । श्राद्धस्य बहवो भेदाः शाखाभेदैर्व्यवस्थिताः
mārkaṃḍeya uvāca | satyametanmahābhāga yatpṛṣṭo'smi nṛpottama | śrāddhasya bahavo bhedāḥ śākhābhedairvyavasthitāḥ
മാർക്കണ്ഡേയൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഹേ മഹാഭാഗ, ഹേ നൃപോത്തമ, നീ എന്നോടു ചോദിച്ചതത് സത്യമായും യുക്തമാണ്; ശ്രാദ്ധത്തിന് പലവിധ ഭേദങ്ങൾ വേദശാഖാഭേദങ്ങൾ അനുസരിച്ച് നിശ്ചിതമായിരിക്കുന്നു।
