विपंचीं वादयन्स्वैरं दृष्टः स मुनिसत्तमः । अजानंत्या च तानानां विशेषं मूर्च्छनोद्भवम् । मया स हसितोऽतीव तानभंगतया गतः
vipaṃcīṃ vādayansvairaṃ dṛṣṭaḥ sa munisattamaḥ | ajānaṃtyā ca tānānāṃ viśeṣaṃ mūrcchanodbhavam | mayā sa hasito'tīva tānabhaṃgatayā gataḥ
ആ മുനിശ്രേഷ്ഠനെ സ്വൈരമായി വിപഞ്ചി വായിക്കുന്നതായി കണ്ടു. മൂർച്ചനയിൽ നിന്നുയരുന്ന സ്വരതാനങ്ങളുടെ സൂക്ഷ്മഭേദം അറിയാതെ, അവന്റെ താനങ്ങൾ ‘ഒടിഞ്ഞത്’ എന്നു കരുതി ഞാൻ അതിയായി പരിഹസിച്ചു ചിരിച്ചു.
