śrīvāsudeva uvāca | gavāṃ ca brāhmaṇānāṃ ca kulamekaṃ dvidhā kṛtam | ekatra maṃtrāstiṣṭhaṃti haviranyatra tiṣṭhati
Śrī Vāsudeva
Listener: the assembly/interlocutor in the narrative (contextually Brahmā and devas)
Scene: Śrī Vāsudeva teaching: a calm, authoritative figure explaining the unity of cows and brāhmaṇas; symbolic depiction of mantra as radiant syllables near brāhmaṇas and havis as ghee/oblations near cows and fire-altar.
Cows and brāhmaṇas are mutually sacred supports of yajña—mantra and offering—together sustaining dharma.
The teaching appears within a Nāgarakhaṇḍa Tīrthamāhātmya discourse; no single tirtha is named in this verse.
It implicitly upholds yajña structure: mantras (brāhmaṇic function) and havis (cow-linked sustenance) are complementary.
