pratipaddinamārabhya paurṇamāsyaṃtameva ca | pakṣaṃ pūrṇo hi yasmācca pūrṇimetyabhidhīyate

Translation

പ്രതിപദ മുതൽ ആരംഭിച്ച് പൗർണ്ണമി വരെ നീളുന്ന പക്ഷം—അത് ‘പൂർണ്ണ’മാകുന്നതിനാൽ അതിനെ ‘പൂർണ്ണിമ’ എന്നു വിളിക്കുന്നു.
