आकर्ण्य तत्करुणवत्परिदेवितानि तानि द्रुमा व्रततयः कुसुमाश्रुपातैः । प्रायो रुदंति पततां विरुतार्तरावैरालोल्यमौलिमसकृत्पवनच्छलेन
ākarṇya tatkaruṇavatparidevitāni tāni drumā vratatayaḥ kusumāśrupātaiḥ | prāyo rudaṃti patatāṃ virutārtarāvairālolyamaulimasakṛtpavanacchalena
ആ കരുണാഭരിതമായ വിലാപങ്ങൾ കേട്ട് ആ വൃക്ഷങ്ങൾ വ്രതധാരികളായ തപസ്വികളുപോലെ തോന്നി—പുഷ്പങ്ങളെ കണ്ണീരാക്കി ചൊരിഞ്ഞ് അവർ കരയുന്നതുപോലെ. വീഴുന്ന പക്ഷികളുടെ വ്യാകുല ആർത്തനാദങ്ങളാൽ അവർ മിക്കവാറും കരഞ്ഞു; കാറ്റിന്റെ നിമിത്തം അവരുടെ ശിഖരങ്ങൾ വീണ്ടും വീണ്ടും ആടിക്കുലുങ്ങി.
