Mārkaṇḍeya
Tirtha: Param tīrtha of the Revā-western circuit (Revā–sea saṅgama/Bhṛgukaccha/Prabhāsa culmination)
Type: kshetra
Listener: King (nṛpa)
Scene: Pilgrims at the tīrtha: one couple praying for a child, another ascetic pilgrim offering worship without desire; the king receives instruction; the river/sea and temple presence unify the scene.
Tīrtha-yātrā yields results according to intention, yet ultimately aims at purification and uplift beyond desire.
The verse refers to the ‘supreme tīrtha’ described in the surrounding passage of Revā-khaṇḍa (the pilgrimage circuit culminating in famed sites like Prabhāsa/Somanātha).
Undertaking the tīrtha properly (‘tīrthaṃ kṛtvā’)—i.e., completing the pilgrimage with its customary disciplines such as snāna and devotion.
