ईश्वर उवाच । यथा काष्ठमयो हस्ती यथा चर्ममयो मृगः । ब्राह्मणश्चानधीयानस्त्रयस्ते नामधारकाः

ഈശ്വരൻ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു—മരത്തിൽ നിർമ്മിച്ച ആനയും, തൊലിയിൽ നിർമ്മിച്ച മാനും പേരിനേ ഉള്ളതുപോലെ, വേദം അധ്യയനം ചെയ്യാത്ത ബ്രാഹ്മണനും വെറും നാമധാരിയത്രേ।
