मार्कण्डेय उवाच । पुरा कृतयुगस्यादौ दक्षिणे गिरिमुत्तमम् । विन्ध्यं सर्वगुणोपेतं नियतो नियताशनः
mārkaṇḍeya uvāca | purā kṛtayugasyādau dakṣiṇe girimuttamam | vindhyaṃ sarvaguṇopetaṃ niyato niyatāśanaḥ
മാർക്കണ്ഡേയൻ പറഞ്ഞു—പുരാതനകാലത്ത്, കൃതയുഗത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭത്തിൽ, തെക്കിലുള്ള സർവ്വഗുണസമ്പന്നമായ ഉത്തമ വിന്ധ്യപർവ്വതത്തെ ഞാൻ സമീപിച്ചു; ഞാൻ നിയമനിഷ്ഠനും മിതാഹാരിയും ആയിരുന്നു.
