Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Sthala Purana: Not a specific jyotirliṅga episode; the verse universalizes nāma-bhakti as a rare attainment ripened by many births of tapas, implying long karmic preparation before grace-bearing devotion dawns.
Significance: Encourages perseverance: devotion to Śiva’s Name is portrayed as the fruit of accumulated merit and austerity, hence to be guarded and deepened.
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
It declares that true bhakti toward Śiva’s Name is a rare attainment matured by tapas over many lives, and that such name-devotion is intrinsically purifying—capable of burning away accumulated pāpa and turning the soul toward Śiva (Pati).
Śiva-nāma is a direct, accessible form of Saguna worship: the devotee approaches Śiva through His revealed Name, often alongside Liṅga-pūjā and pañcākṣarī-japa, making devotion steady and cleansing the bonds (pāśa) that obscure realization.
Regular japa of Śiva’s Name—especially the pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—with a disciplined life of tapas (restraint, purity, and worship), optionally supported by Rudrākṣa and Tripuṇḍra as Shaiva aids.
