Sthala Purana: As part of the Kāśī (Avimukta) teaching-stream, merit-making acts (dharma-saṃcaya) and support of pilgrims are praised as aids that turn the bound soul away from repeated birth toward Śiva’s liberating knowledge.

Significance: Dāna and public-benefit works (shade, water, dharma-support) in Śiva’s kṣetra are taught as accelerants for puṇya leading to jñāna and eventual anugraha.

FAQs

It teaches that bhoga (sense-enjoyment) does not end saṃsāra; after pleasures are exhausted, rebirth follows. Hence one should convert human life into dharma-saṃcaya—merit that purifies the soul and supports liberation under Śiva’s cosmic law.

By recommending brahma-pratiṣṭhā (a consecrated sacred foundation), the verse points toward establishing places where worship and Vedic-Śaiva rites can be performed—supporting Saguna Śiva devotion through temples, consecrations, and dharmic institutions that sustain Linga worship.

Primarily it suggests dharmic seva as a practice: creating shade (planting trees/rest-houses), building water-reservoirs, and establishing consecrated worship-sites. These can be paired with daily Śiva-smaraṇa and japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) to dedicate the merit to Śiva.
