Classification and Definition of Yoga

evaṃ śive vilīnātmā samādhistha ihocyate | yathā dīpo nivātasthaḥ spandate na kadācana

It defines true samādhi as the state where the limited self (pāśu) is absorbed in Śiva (Pati), becoming unwavering—free from agitation caused by bonds (pāśa) such as desire, fear, and ego.
Linga-worship steadies the mind through form (saguṇa upāsanā) and leads it toward inner absorption; when devotion and contemplation mature, the worshipper becomes as steady as the unflickering lamp, abiding in Śiva beyond mental fluctuation.
Practice dhyāna with japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), maintaining one-pointed stillness; support it with Shaiva disciplines like wearing rudrākṣa and applying tripuṇḍra (bhasma) to reduce restlessness and anchor remembrance of Śiva.
