Cosmic Event: Devas receiving bhāga in yajña—maintenance of cosmic administration despite underlying offense
It shows that cosmic order (dharma) and the functioning of ritual are upheld through divine guardianship, while the devas receive only their allotted portions—implying that higher liberation is not achieved by shares of ritual merit alone but by turning toward the Supreme (Pati) beyond limited fruits.
While the verse speaks of sacrificial distribution among devas, the Shiva Purana repeatedly contrasts such limited, result-oriented rites with Linga-worship directed to Saguna Shiva, where devotion and surrender purify the soul and orient it toward Shiva’s grace rather than merely securing worldly boons.
Perform offerings with right intention—pair outer worship (such as Linga-archana) with inner remembrance of Shiva through japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), treating ritual ‘shares’ as secondary to devotion and purification.
