इत्थं चक्रे स दुर्वासा विचित्रं चरितम्बहु । धन्यं यशस्यमायुष्यं शृण्वतस्सर्वकामदम्
itthaṃ cakre sa durvāsā vicitraṃ caritambahu | dhanyaṃ yaśasyamāyuṣyaṃ śṛṇvatassarvakāmadam
ഇങ്ങനെ മുനി ദുർവാസൻ അനേകം വിചിത്ര ചരിതങ്ങൾ നിർവഹിച്ചു. ഈ പുണ്യകഥ ധന്യവും യശസ്സുനൽകുന്നതും ആയുസ്സ് വർധിപ്പിക്കുന്നതുമാണ്; ഭക്തിയോടെ കേൾക്കുന്നവർക്കു സകല ധർമ്മസമ്മത കാമനകളും നല്കുന്നു.

Significance: This is a phalaśruti: śravaṇa of the sacred narrative is said to yield dharma-artha-kāma benefits (and implicitly mokṣa), functioning like tīrtha-māhātmya in Purāṇic discourse.
Type: stotra
It is a phala-śruti declaring the spiritual fruit of śravaṇa (devout listening): the narrative becomes a means of accruing merit, strengthening devotion to Śiva, and aligning desires with dharma, which supports progress toward grace and liberation.
By praising the power of hearing Śaiva sacred history, it reinforces saguna-bhakti—approaching Śiva through name, form, and līlā—where attentive listening itself becomes an act of worship comparable to temple or liṅga-centered devotion.
Regular śravaṇa/pāraṇa of Śiva Purāṇa with reverence—ideally alongside japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and simple Śiva-upacāras such as vibhūti (tripuṇḍra) and rudrākṣa—so the mind remains Śiva-oriented.
