नारदस्य विष्णूपदेशवर्णनम् — Nārada and Viṣṇu: Instruction after Delusion
मोहिनीरूपमादाय कपटं कृतवान्पुरा । असुरेभ्योऽपाययस्त्वं वारुणीममृतं न हि
mohinīrūpamādāya kapaṭaṃ kṛtavānpurā | asurebhyo'pāyayastvaṃ vāruṇīmamṛtaṃ na hi
മോഹിനീരൂപം ധരിച്ചു നീ മുമ്പ് കപടം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. നീ അസുരന്മാർക്ക് അമൃതമല്ല, വാരുണി (മദ്യം) കുടിപ്പിച്ചു.

It contrasts true immortality (amṛta—symbolic of liberation and divine grace) with intoxication (vāruṇī—symbolic of delusion). The verse teaches discernment: those driven by ego and craving receive confusion, while dharmic alignment leads toward the deathless state.
As a Purāṇic lesson on māyā, it supports Saguna worship: devotees approach Shiva (often through the Liṅga) for clarity, restraint, and grace to transcend delusion. The Liṅga signifies the stable Reality beyond deceptive appearances, guiding the seeker from vāruṇī-like distraction to amṛta-like liberation.
Practice discrimination and steadiness through japa of the Pañcākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—and maintain purity with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) as a reminder of impermanence, avoiding ‘intoxicants of the mind’ such as anger, greed, and pride.
