The Cause of Dadhīca’s Curse
Explaining Viṣṇu’s Role at Dakṣa’s Sacrifice
atha prītyā śivastāta prasannaścyāvaniṃ mune | varaṃ brūhīti sa prāha suprasannena cetasā
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: Boon-bestowal (vara-pradāna) is framed as Śiva’s grace responding to devotion—an archetypal assurance for pilgrims and worshippers seeking dharma, artha, kāma, and ultimately mokṣa.
Role: liberating
It highlights Śiva’s anugraha (grace): when devotion ripens into sincere love, the Lord becomes pleased and invites the devotee to state a boon—showing that divine compassion responds to bhakti and purity of heart.
The verse reflects Saguna Śiva’s accessible, personal aspect—He listens, speaks, and blesses. In Linga-worship, the devotee similarly approaches Śiva as the gracious Lord who accepts offerings and grants spiritual upliftment according to dharma.
Cultivate a calm, pleased mind through japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and steady bhakti; then offer prayer with clear intention, asking boons aligned with dharma and liberation.
