Viṣṇu’s Hymn and the Petition for Śiva–Satī’s Protection

The verse uses the “oil in a sesame seed” metaphor to express immanence: the inner reality pervades all moving and unmoving beings. From a Shaiva Siddhanta lens, it points to the need to pierce delusion (moha) and recognize the indwelling presence of the Divine—Pati—who is nearer than the outer world.
Linga worship trains the mind to perceive Shiva as both transcendent and present within all forms. The verse supports Saguna upasana (worship with form) as a doorway to realizing the subtle, all-pervading presence—like oil unseen yet real within the seed—so the devotee learns to see Shiva within creation, not merely outside it.
A practical takeaway is inner-directed japa and dhyana—especially Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya)—contemplating Shiva’s presence within the heart and within all beings. This contemplation aligns with Shaiva practice alongside external aids like bhasma and rudraksha, which remind the seeker of inward purity and detachment.
