Nandīśvara (Nandi)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
It establishes śravaṇa (reverent listening) as a direct devotional act: Nandi signals that teachings aligned with Śiva-dharma are themselves “Śiva-santoṣa-kāraka”—capable of pleasing Śiva and orienting the listener toward grace and liberation.
By addressing Hari, Brahmā, Indra, devas, and sages, Nandi frames Śiva as the supreme object of devotion whose satisfaction is sought by all. Such instruction typically culminates in Saguna worship—service to Śiva through Linga-pūjā, mantra, and disciplined devotion—through which the devotee approaches the transcendent (Nirguna) reality.
The immediate practice is attentive listening to Shaiva teaching (śravaṇa) with faith; as a takeaway, it naturally supports daily Shiva-upāsanā such as japa of the Panchākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and sincere devotional conduct aimed at Śiva’s pleasure.
