Brāhmaṇī-Svargati-Varṇana: Account of a Brāhmaṇa Woman’s Ascent to Heaven

gauruvāca | mama duḥkhaṃ tadā gacchedyathā dukhaṃ tathāvidham | bhaveddhi brāhmaṇasyāpi satyametadbravīmyaham

FAQs

The verse affirms a Shaiva insight: duḥkha can touch anyone, even the most dharmic, and its removal requires right understanding and turning the mind toward Śiva as the supreme refuge (Pati) beyond bondage.

In the Kotirudra context, the promise of sorrow’s cessation is typically fulfilled through devotion to Saguna Śiva as the Jyotirliṅga—approaching the visible sacred form to gain inner steadiness and grace that dissolves grief.

A practical takeaway is to seek duḥkha-nivṛtti through Śiva-upāsanā: steady japa of the Pañcākṣarī ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya"), along with simple purificatory observances such as bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and devotional remembrance.
