किं देवेषु त्यज एनश्चकर्थाग्ने पृच्छामि नु त्वामविद्वान् । अक्रीळन्क्रीळन्हरिरत्तवेऽदन्वि पर्वशश्चकर्त गामिवासिः ॥
kíṁ devéṣu tyája énaś cakartha ágne pṛcchāmi nú tvām ávidvān | ákrīḷan krī́ḷan hárir áttave ’dan ví parva-śáś cakarta gā́m iva ásiḥ ||
ഹേ അഗ്നേ, ദേവന്മാരിൽ ‘ത്യജ’ എന്ന ഉപേക്ഷയുടെ ഏതു അപരാധം നീ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു? അറിവില്ലാത്ത ഞാൻ ഇപ്പോൾ നിന്നോടു ചോദിക്കുന്നു. കളിക്കാതെ—എന്നാലും കളിക്കുന്നവണ്ണം—ഹരിവർണ്ണൻ (ഹരി) ഭക്ഷണത്തിനായി സന്ധി സന്ധിയായി മുറിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; കത്തി പശുവിനെ മുറിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ.
