Sarga 93: Rāvaṇa’s Grief and Fury after Indrajit’s Fall; Move to Slay Vaidehī and Ministerial Restraint
ततःपौलस्त्यसचिवा्श्रुत्वाचेन्द्रजितोवधम् ।आचचक्षुरभिज्ञायदशग्रीवायसव्यथा: ।।।।
tataḥ paulasya-sacivāḥ śrutvā cendrajito vadham | ācacakṣur abhijñāya daśagrīvāya sa-vyathāḥ ||
അതിനുശേഷം പൗലസ്ത്യരാജാവായ (രാവണന്റെ) മന്ത്രിമാർ ഇന്ദ്രജിത്തിന്റെ വധവാർത്ത കേട്ട്, അതിന്റെ ഗൗരവം തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞ് വ്യഥിതരായി, ദശഗ്രീവനായ രാവണനോട് ആ ദുഃഖവാർത്ത അറിയിച്ചു.
Then, having known about the distressing fall of Indrajith, the ministers of Ravana reported to the ten-headed Ravana.
Truthful reporting in governance is a dhārmic duty; even painful facts must be conveyed to the ruler for right decision-making.
The scene shifts from the battlefield outcome to Laṅkā’s court, where Rāvaṇa is informed that Indrajit has been slain.
