मकराक्षस्य निर्गमनम्
The Deployment of Makaraksha and Ravana’s Fury
गच्छपुत्रऽमयाऽजाज्ञप्तोबलेनाभिसमवनितः ।राघवंलक्ष्मणंचैवजहितांश्चवनौकसः ।।।।
gaccha putra mayājñapto balenābhisamāvanitaḥ |
rāghavaṃ lakṣmaṇaṃ caiva jahi tāṃś ca vanaukasaḥ ||
“പോകുക, മകനേ! എന്റെ ആജ്ഞപ്രകാരം, സൈന്യബലത്തിന്റെ പിന്തുണയോടെ നീ മുന്നേറുക. രാഘവനെയും ലക്ഷ്മണനെയും, ആ വനവാസികളായ വാനരസേനയെയും സംഹരിക്ക.”
His horses yoked to the chariot went giving up their valour, faltering feet, desperate and shedding tears.
Dharma is contrasted with adharma: Rāvaṇa issues a command rooted in hostility and revenge rather than justice; the epic frames such violence as ethically disordered.
Rāvaṇa formally orders Makarākṣa to enter battle and target Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa, and the Vānara allies.
The verse foregrounds obedience and martial readiness in Makarākṣa’s role, though the command’s aim is ethically problematic.
