The Intensification of the Rama–Ravana Duel

शरान् खरमुखांश्चान्यान्वराहमुखसंश्रितान् ।।6.100.43।।श्वानकुक्कुटवक्त्रांश्चमकराशीविषाननान् ।एतांश्चान्यांश्चमायावीससर्जनिशितान् शरान् ।।6.100.44।।रामंप्रतिमहातेजाःक्रुद्धस्सर्पइवश्वसन् ।

śarān kharamukhāṃś cānyān varāhamukhasaṃśritān || 6.100.43 ||

śvānakukkuṭavaktrāṃś ca makarāśīviṣānanān |

etāṃś cānyāṃś ca māyāvī sasarja niśitān śarān || 6.100.44 ||

rāmaṃ prati mahātejāḥ kruddhaḥ sarpa iva śvasan |

അപ്പോൾ മഹാതേജസ്സുള്ള മായാവിയായ രാവണൻ ക്രോധത്തോടെ സർപ്പത്തെപ്പോലെ ശ്വാസം ചീറ്റിക്കൊണ്ട് രാമനോട് അതിതീക്ഷ്ണമായ അമ്പുകൾ പ്രയോഗിച്ചു—ചിലത് കഴുതമുഖങ്ങളായും, ചിലത് വരാഹമുഖങ്ങളായും, ചിലത് നായയും കോഴിയും പോലെയുള്ള മുഖങ്ങളായും, ചിലത് മകരവും വിഷസർപ്പവും പോലെയുള്ള മുഖങ്ങളായും; ഇങ്ങനെ അനേകം മറ്റു അമ്പുകളും കൂടി അവൻ വിട്ടു।
