Given to intoxication and sex, the women slept touching one another's thighs, sides, hips, back and lap of the other, with their limbs intertwined.
The verse depicts loss of discernment under intoxication and desire; dharma, by implication, requires mastery of senses and clarity of mind—qualities necessary for truthful conduct and right action.
Hanumān witnesses the palace women asleep in a disorderly, intimate heap, shaped by drink and passion.
Hanumān’s inner purity and discipline, remaining unaffected by a scene meant to entice or distract.
