The Token of Recognition (Chūḍāmaṇi) and the Crow Episode Recalled
मत्कृते काकमात्रे तु ब्रह्मास्त्रं समुदीरितम्।कस्माद्यो मां हरेत्त्वत्तः क्षमसे तं महीपते।।5.38.39।।
matkṛte kākamātre tu brahmāstraṃ samudīritam |
kasmād yo māṃ haret tvattaḥ kṣamase taṃ mahīpate || 5.38.39 ||
എന്റെ കാരണത്താൽ നീ ഒരു ചെറിയ കാക്കയ്ക്കെതിരെയും ബ്രഹ്മാസ്ത്രം പ്രയോഗിച്ചു; എന്നാൽ, ഭൂമിയുടെ അധിപനേ, എന്നെ നിന്നിൽ നിന്ന് അപഹരിച്ചവനെ നീ എന്തുകൊണ്ട് സഹിക്കുന്നു?
'That crow offered salutations to you Rama and king Dasaratha, thereafter took permission and went to his own dwelling.
Dharma requires proportionate justice: Sītā questions the apparent mismatch between swift punishment of a minor offender and delay toward a grave adharma (abduction).
While speaking to Hanumān, Sītā emotionally addresses Rāma as if present, pressing the urgency of action against her abductor.
Sītā’s commitment to satya and moral consistency—she appeals to Rāma’s known standards of justice and protection.
