समुद्रलङ्घनारम्भः
Commencement of the Ocean-Crossing
उपरिष्टाच्छरीरेण छायया चावगाढया।।।।सागरे मारुताविष्टा नौरिवासीत्तदा कपिः।
upariṣṭāc charīreṇa chāyayā cāvagāḍhayā | sāgare mārutāviṣṭā naur ivāsīt tadā kapiḥ ||
അപ്പോൾ ശരീരം മുകളിലായി, അതിന്റെ ഗാഢ നിഴൽ സമുദ്രത്തിൽ പതിഞ്ഞു; കാറ്റാൽ മുന്നോട്ട് തള്ളപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു നൗകപോലെ കപി തോന്നി.
When the vanara was flying in the sky, his shadow reflected in the ocean looked like aship driven by the wind and sailing on the sea below (as if the lower part of his body was under water and upper part occupied the sky)
Dharma is steady progress toward a just end: like a ship borne by wind yet holding course, Hanumān advances with single-minded purpose for Sītā and Rāma.
Hanumān flies above the sea; his shadow on the water creates the visual illusion of a wind-driven vessel.
Ekāgratā (focused intent) and steadiness in undertaking a difficult duty.
