Rama’s Lament and Search for Sita
yadi dṛṣṭā tvayā sītā jambu jambūphalopamā | priyāṃ yadi vijānīṣe niḥśaṅkaṃ kathayasva me || 3.60.19 ||
As inauspicious omens appeared again and again, doubting if all is well with Sita, he said to himself, Can Sita be safe?
Dharma is satya (truthfulness) in crisis: Rāma asks for an unhesitating report, underscoring that truthful testimony is a moral duty when someone’s safety is at stake.
Rāma, desperate for any lead, requests the jambu tree to disclose without concealment whether Sītā was seen.
Integrity of purpose—his request is direct and oriented toward rescue, not toward vengeance or display.
