मारीचवधोत्तरं रामस्य शङ्का-निमित्त-दर्शनं लक्ष्मण-निग्रहश्च

तस्य सन्त्वरमाणस्य द्रष्टुकामस्य मैथिलीम्।क्रूरस्वनोऽथ गोमायुर्विननादास्य पृष्ठतः।।।।
tasya santvaramāṇasya draṣṭukāmasya maithilīm |
krūrasvano ’tha gomāyur vinanādāsya pṛṣṭhataḥ ||
മൈഥിലിയായ സീതയെ കാണുവാൻ ആകാംക്ഷയോടെ രാമൻ വേഗത്തിൽ മുന്നേറുമ്പോൾ, അവന്റെ പിന്നിൽ ഒരു ഗോമായു (കുറുക്കൻ) ക്രൂരവും അപശകുനസൂചകവുമായ ശബ്ദത്തിൽ പെട്ടെന്ന് അലറി.
