Pulastya (to Bhīṣma) [contextual identification typical for Sṛṣṭikhaṇḍa dialogues]

Concept: Sūrya is worshipped through specific bodily loci (kaṇṭha/neck-throat region) under Bharaṇī and Rohiṇī timings, integrating mantra, place-names, and astral order into a single upāsanā.

Application: Use ‘throat worship’ as a vow of truthful speech: on chosen auspicious days, practice restraint in speech, recite a stotra, and avoid harsh words—turning ritual into ethical refinement.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Type: region

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Pulastya instructs Bhīṣma beside a sacred diagram painted on cloth: a human silhouette marked with luminous zones labeled ‘Kaṇṭha’, ‘Grīvāgni-parkṣa’, and ‘Dhara-saṃpuṭa’. Above them, Bharaṇī and Rohiṇī shine as distinct star clusters, while a fierce Sun with sharp rays watches from the sky like a witness to the vow.","primary_figures":["Pulastya","Bhīṣma (Bhārata)","Sūrya (Divākara)"],"setting":"Forest hermitage classroom with kusa grass seats, palm-leaf manuscripts, and a ritual diagram; night-to-dawn sky showing nakṣatras.","lighting_mood":"forest dappled","color_palette":["burnt sienna","sunlit gold","sage green","midnight blue","chalk white"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Pulastya and Bhīṣma seated in a stylized āśrama, gold-leaf Sun with fierce rays overhead; a body-diagram cloth with labeled zones (Kaṇṭha, Grīvāgni-parkṣa, Dhara-saṃpuṭa) rendered as ornate cartouches; rich reds/greens, embossed gold borders and jewelry highlights.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: quiet hermitage scene with refined figures, a cloth diagram spread between teacher and student; dawn sky with Bharaṇī and Rohiṇī indicated by tiny star clusters; gentle naturalism, cool blues with warm sunrise edge.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold-outlined Pulastya teaching Bhīṣma; large radiant Sūrya disc; diagrammatic body zones as bright patches; saturated pigments, temple-wall symmetry and stylized foliage.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: central solar mandala above, lower register shows sage and warrior-student; border filled with star motifs labeled Bharaṇī and Rohiṇī; intricate floral vines and lotus borders, deep blues and gold with diagram elements stylized as decorative medallions."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"meditative","suggested_raga":"Bhairavi","pace":"slow-meditative","voice_tone":"authoritative","sound_elements":["rustling leaves","low drone (tanpura-like)","distant birds at dawn","soft bell at mantra points","silence after vocatives"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: दिवाकरायेत्यभिपूजनीयम् = दिवाकराय + इति + अभिपूजनीयम्; संपूजयेद्भारत = संपूजयेत् + भारत (त् + भ → द्भ).

FAQs

It prescribes worship of a solar form (Divākara/Sūrya), specifying auspicious timings tied to the nakṣatras Bharaṇī and Rohiṇī, and associating the practice with named locations/sections.

They function as ritual time-markers (lunar mansions) indicating when a particular form or mode of worship is considered especially appropriate or fruitful.

It emphasizes disciplined, time-conscious devotion—aligning worship with sacred calendrical rhythms and performing it with completeness (saṃpūjā), reflecting attentiveness and reverence rather than casual piety.
