Unspecified (narrative voice within Bhūmi-khaṇḍa context; commonly framed in the Pulastya–Bhīṣma dialogue in this section).

Concept: Give according to capacity, beginning with supports of life and dharma—environment (trees), spiritual learning (brāhmaṇas), and cosmic timing (graha-nakṣatra).

Application: Practice ‘capacity-based giving’: plant/protect trees, support teachers and sacred learning, and align important actions with mindful timing rather than superstition—using it to cultivate discipline and gratitude.

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A compassionate dharma tableau: villagers and ascetics gather as a benefactor offers saplings, water, and cloth, while learned brāhmaṇas bless the act. Above, the night sky displays a luminous wheel of nakṣatras and planets, suggesting that generosity harmonizes earth and cosmos.","primary_figures":["Dānapati (giver)","Brāhmaṇas","Forest hermit","Person planting a tree","Grahas/Nakṣatras (symbolic celestial forms)"],"setting":"Riverside or village edge with a small āśrama, newly planted trees, a simple altar, and a sky-mandala of stars.","lighting_mood":"forest dappled","color_palette":["leaf green","earth brown","starlit indigo","saffron","silver white"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: central giver offering gifts to brāhmaṇas beside a sacred sapling being planted; gold leaf highlights on halos, vessels, and star-mandala; rich reds/greens, ornate borders with lotus and vine motifs, devotional symmetry.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: lyrical landscape with delicate trees and a small āśrama; refined figures exchanging gifts; a cool indigo sky with finely dotted nakṣatras; gentle naturalism and soft gradients.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines; stylized tree with broad leaves; brāhmaṇas with ritual marks; grahas as iconic faces in a circular sky band; warm pigment palette and temple-wall feel.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: elaborate floral border; central act of planting a Tulasi-like sapling motif generalized to ‘trees’; starry mandala overhead; peacocks and cows at margins; deep blues and gold with intricate patterning."}

FAQs

It teaches proportional giving: one should give according to one’s fitness and capacity (yogya), and then actually begin the act rather than merely intending it.

Trees represent public welfare and environmental support (shade, fruit, sustenance), while Brahmins represent preservation and transmission of sacred learning and ritual order; both are portrayed as key recipients/objects of dharmic support.

Grahas and nakṣatras indicate the ritual-cosmological framework: charitable acts are often undertaken with attention to auspicious timing and to mitigating perceived afflictions, integrating ethics (dāna) with traditional calendrical/astrological observance.
