Entering Kāmodā and the Doctrine of Dreams, Sleep, and the Self
nārada uvāca | vātikaḥ paittikaścaiva kaphajaḥ sānnipātikaḥ | svapnaḥ pravartate bhadre mānaveṣu na saṃśayaḥ
Nārada
Concept: Dreams have natural causes (doṣa-based); understanding causality reduces fear and supports right action.
Application: Treat disturbing dreams with grounded discernment: regulate diet/sleep, reduce agitation, and add spiritual practices (nāma-japa, prayer) rather than panic.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Sandhi Resolution Notes:
Four types: dreams arising from vāta, from pitta, from kapha, and from sannipāta (a combined disturbance of all doṣas).
The verse uses an Āyurvedic doṣa framework, attributing dream-experiences to bodily humors (vāta, pitta, kapha) and their combined imbalance (sannipāta).
It encourages discernment: not every dream is a supernatural omen—some are physiological/temperamental effects linked to doṣic conditions.
