Sūta

Concept: Sacred knowledge is preserved by faithful transmission; recounting hari-bhakta narratives is itself a meritorious act.

Application: Share teachings responsibly: repeat what you have truly learned, cite sources, and transmit with humility—especially in spiritual instruction.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Sūta sits on a slightly raised seat, one hand resting on a palm-leaf manuscript, the other gesturing gently as he promises to narrate exactly as he received it. The sages lean in, forming a semicircle, while the air feels steady and sanctified—like a lamp being passed from one hand to another without flicker.","primary_figures":["Sūta","Ṛṣayaḥ (brāhmaṇas/sages)"],"setting":"Hermitage assembly with manuscript stand, water pot, and a small altar with Viṣṇu symbol (śaṅkha-cakra)","lighting_mood":"golden dawn","color_palette":["sunrise gold","indigo ink","palm-leaf beige","vermillion","forest green"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Sūta as central narrator with gold leaf halo, seated on a carved wooden vyāsa-āsana; sages arranged symmetrically; gold leaf accents on manuscript edges and altar emblems (śaṅkha-cakra); rich red backdrop, emerald borders, and ornate arch framing the transmission moment.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: serene dawn light over a hermitage; Sūta with delicate features and subtle hand gesture; sages in soft whites and ochres; fine detailing on palm-leaf folios; distant hills and a thin mist conveying calm authority.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: iconic Sūta with pronounced eyes and stylized hair; bold outlines; warm yellow background with red-green garments; a small Viṣṇu emblem panel behind him; composition emphasizing oral tradition and sacred speech.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: central storyteller medallion with Sūta, surrounded by floral borders and lotus motifs; deep blue field with gold highlights; small conch and discus motifs repeating along the border to signal Vaiṣṇava kathā."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"narrative","suggested_raga":"Desh","pace":"moderate-narrative","voice_tone":"authoritative","sound_elements":["tanpura drone","soft mridangam pulse","birds at dawn","conch shell (very soft, introductory)","measured pauses"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: पूर्वमेव = पूर्वम् + एव; प्रज्ञाप्रभावेण = प्रज्ञा + प्रभावेण (षष्ठी-तत्पुरुष); श्रुता इति कथा-विशेषणरूपेण।

FAQs

Sūta is speaking, addressing the assembled brāhmaṇas (viprāḥ).

It serves as a narrative transition: Sūta announces that he will recount, as previously heard, the story of the noble Suvrata.

The verse highlights faithful transmission of sacred narrative and implies that true understanding (prajñā) supports accurate recollection and teaching of dharmic stories.
