The Greatness of Haridvāra
Gaṅgādvāra-māhātmya
haridvārasya māhātmyaṃ yaḥ śrṛṇoti narottamaḥ | paṭhedvā bhaktisaṃyuktaḥ so'pi snānaphalaṃ labhet || 54 ||
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada in the Haridvara Mahatmya context)
Vrata: none
Rasa: {"primary_rasa":"bhakti","secondary_rasa":"shanta","emotional_journey":"From reverent hearing/recitation of Haridvāra’s glory to the quiet assurance of receiving tīrtha-snāna merit."}
It teaches that sacred merit is accessible not only through physical pilgrimage and bathing at Haridvāra, but also through devotional listening (śravaṇa) and recitation (pāṭha) of its māhātmya.
Bhakti is shown as the enabling force: when hearing or reciting is “bhakti-saṃyukta,” it yields the same spiritual fruit as the tirtha-act itself, emphasizing inner devotion over mere external action.
The verse primarily highlights sādhana through śravaṇa and pāṭha (devotional study/recitation). While not a direct Vedāṅga instruction, it implicitly values correct recitation (linked to Śikṣā and Vyākaraṇa traditions) as a means to gain punya.
