The Greatness of Haridvāra
Gaṅgādvāra-māhātmya
dakṣayajñotsavaṃ prītyānyonyaṃ varṇayatāṃ satī | śrutvā sotkā mahādevaṃ prārthayāmāsa bhāminī || 10 ||
Suta (narrating the Purana’s account; verse is narrative description rather than direct speech)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shringara
It highlights how hearing about a public ritual (yajña-utsava) can stir powerful inner impulses—here, Satī’s longing and resolve—setting in motion a dharmic conflict that tests pride, devotion, and right conduct.
Satī’s immediate turning toward Mahādeva in heartfelt entreaty shows bhakti as personal, relational devotion—seeking the Lord directly when the mind is moved by sacred events and social-religious gatherings.
The verse centers on yajña context (ritual culture) rather than a specific Vedāṅga; practically, it points to Śrauta-style sacrificial occasions (yajña-utsava) as major social-religious events that prompt questions of proper ritual participation and dharma.
