The Greatness of Bathing in the Ganges
Gaṅgā-snānā-mahātmya
तस्य स्याद्वैष्णवे लोके स्थितिः कल्पं न संशयः । आमृत्युं स्नाति गंगायां यो नरो नित्यमेव च ॥ ४१ ॥
tasya syādvaiṣṇave loke sthitiḥ kalpaṃ na saṃśayaḥ | āmṛtyuṃ snāti gaṃgāyāṃ yo naro nityameva ca || 41 ||
Narada (teaching within the Uttara-Bhaga tirtha-māhātmya context)
Vrata: none (lifelong daily Gaṅgā-snāna observance implied)
Rasa: {"primary_rasa":"bhakti","secondary_rasa":"shanta","emotional_journey":"Steady lifelong practice culminates in serene certainty: daily Gaṅgā-snāna until death yields long residence in Viṣṇu’s world."}
It declares the fruit of lifelong, daily Gaṅgā-snāna: assured residence in Viṣṇu’s realm for a kalpa, emphasizing tīrtha-sevā as a potent purifier and merit-generating practice.
By linking a devotional sacred act (regular Gaṅgā bathing undertaken with reverence) to Vaiṣṇava-loka, it frames tīrtha observance as an expression of Viṣṇu-centered bhakti with a promised divine destination.
Primarily ritual discipline (ācāra) and vrata-like regularity: the stress is on nitya (daily) observance and lifelong continuity, rather than a technical Vedāṅga such as Vyākaraṇa or Jyotiṣa.
