The Exposition of the Maheśa Mantra

Mahēśa-mantra-prakāśana

भूतवेतालकादीनां क्षयोऽयं निग्रहे मनुः । तारो वांतो धरासंस्थो वामनेत्रेंदुभूषितः ॥ १८४ ॥

bhūtavetālakādīnāṃ kṣayo'yaṃ nigrahe manuḥ | tāro vāṃto dharāsaṃstho vāmanetreṃdubhūṣitaḥ || 184 ||

ഭൂത, വേതാള മുതലായവയെ നിഗ്രഹിക്കാൻ ഈ മന്ത്രം അവയുടെ ക്ഷയം വരുത്തുന്നതാണ്. ഇതിന്റെ ഋഷി മനു, ദേവത/സ്വരൂപം ‘താര’, വിനിയോഗം ‘ധരാസംസ്ഥ’ (ഭൂമിയിൽ നിലകൊള്ളൽ), ലക്ഷണം ഇടത് കണ്ണിൽ ചന്ദ്രഭൂഷണം.
