It warns that violence toward others, driven by greed and delusion, binds a person to repeated worldly existence; such a mind cannot access the “higher direction,” i.e., the liberating upward course of dharma leading toward moksha.
Bhakti requires a purified heart—compassion, restraint, and freedom from lobha and moha. By contrasting harmful, greedy conduct with the “higher direction,” the verse implicitly points to devotion and sattvic living as prerequisites for rising toward Vishnu-oriented liberation.
No specific Vedanga technique is taught in this verse; the practical takeaway is ethical discipline (yama-like restraint) as the foundation that supports mantra, ritual, and scriptural study without being undermined by greed and delusion.
