श्रीब्रह्मोवाच । अथ ते संप्रवक्ष्यामि मार्कंडेयाभिधं मुने । पुराणं सुमहत्पुण्यं पठतां श्रृण्वतां सदा ॥ १ ॥
śrībrahmovāca | atha te saṃpravakṣyāmi mārkaṃḍeyābhidhaṃ mune | purāṇaṃ sumahatpuṇyaṃ paṭhatāṃ śrṛṇvatāṃ sadā || 1 ||
ശ്രീബ്രഹ്മാവ് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു—ഹേ മുനേ! ഇനി ‘മാർക്കണ്ഡേയ’ എന്ന പേരിലുള്ള പുരാണം ഞാൻ നിനക്കു സമഗ്രമായി പ്രസ്താവിക്കും. ഇത് അതിമഹത്തും, നിത്യമായി പാരായണം ചെയ്യുകയും ശ്രവണം ചെയ്യുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നവർക്ക് പരമ പുണ്യദായകവുമാണ്.
