Daśamī-vrata: Observances for the Bright Tenth Day Through the Twelve Months
yo me nairṛtigaḥ pāpmā pāpakeneha karmaṇā | rakṣorājo nairṛtistaṃ nāśayatvakhileṣṭadaḥ || 37 ||
Narada (in a ritual/propitiatory formula within the adhyaya’s puranic-summary context)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhayanaka
Secondary Rasa: karuna
It functions as a protective, purificatory invocation: the devotee acknowledges pāpa arising from wrongful karma and prays for its destruction through a powerful guardian deity associated with removing inauspicious forces.
Bhakti here appears as śaraṇāgati (seeking refuge): rather than justifying one’s faults, the practitioner turns to a higher power for cleansing and protection, aligning the will toward dharma.
The verse reflects ritual application (prayoga) and directional/deity mapping used in karmakāṇḍa practice—knowledge often coordinated with Jyotiṣa-style dik/devatā correspondences and śānti procedures.
