Adhyaya 71 — The King’s Remorse and the Sage’s Counsel on the Necessity of a Wife
ṛṣīruvāca pāṇigrahaṇa-kāle tvaṃ sūrya-bhauma-śanaiścaraiḥ / śukra-vācaspati-bhyāṃ ca tava bhāryāvalokitā

The verse reflects a purāṇic acceptance of cosmic causality: individual experience (especially relational temperament) is shaped by time, ritual moment, and planetary configurations—yet the teaching context implies that understanding causes enables remedial action and wiser conduct.
Carita with ancillary dharma/jyotiṣa material; not a sarga/manvantara passage but a didactic explanation embedded in narrative.
Planets here function as archetypal forces: Sūrya (ego/authority), Maṅgala (heat/conflict), Śani (constraint), Śukra (desire/affection), Bṛhaspati (ethics/counsel). Their ‘gaze’ at marriage symbolizes the composite psyche that will play out in intimacy.
