Nakula’s Reception in Matsya: Appointment as Aśvasūta

Horse-master

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights ethical self-mastery: even in close proximity to potentially compromising situations, one should remain ātmavān (self-possessed), act with propriety, and maintain a blameless reputation—especially when duty requires secrecy.

Arjuna, living in disguise in Virāṭa’s household, behaves in a manner pleasing to the women around him while keeping strict control over himself. Because of his careful conduct and effective disguise, neither outsiders nor inner-palace attendants recognize his true identity.
