तत्रोपसदन चक्रे द्रोणस्येष्वस्त्रकर्मणि । सख्यं दुर्योधनेनैवमगमत् स च वीर्यवान्,वहाँ उसने धरनुर्वेदकी शिक्षा लेनेके लिये आचार्य द्रोणकी शिष्यता स्वीकार की। इस प्रकार पराक्रमी कर्णकी दुर्योधनके साथ मित्रता हो गयी
tatro'pasadanaṃ cakre droṇasyeṣv-astrakarmaṇi | sakhyaṃ duryodhanenaivam agamat sa ca vīryavān ||
അവിടെ അവൻ ധനുര്വിദ്യയും അസ്ത്രപ്രയോഗശാസ്ത്രവും പഠിക്കുവാൻ ആചാര്യ ദ്രോണന്റെ ശിഷ്യത്വം സ്വീകരിച്ചു. ഇങ്ങനെ വീര്യവാനായ കര്ണന് ദുര്യോധനനോടു സൗഹൃദബന്ധം ഉണ്ടായി.
