गौतम उवाच वेदा: साड़्ा मयाधीतास्तपो मे संचितं महत्‌ | कौमारब्रह्मचर्य च गुरवो3ग्निश्व तोषिता:

gautama uvāca | vedāḥ sāṅgā mayādhītās tapo me sañcitaṃ mahat | kaumāra-brahmacaryaṃ ca guravo 'gniś ca toṣitāḥ ||

ഗൗതമൻ പറഞ്ഞു—വേദങ്ങളെ അവയുടെ അങ്കങ്ങളോടുകൂടി ഞാൻ അധ്യയനം ചെയ്തു; മഹത്തായ തപസ്സു ഞാൻ സമ്പാദിച്ചു. ബാല്യകാലം മുതൽ ബ്രഹ്മചര്യം അനുഷ്ഠിച്ചു; ഗുരുക്കന്മാരെയും അഗ്നിദേവനെയും യഥാവിധി തൃപ്തിപ്പെടുത്തി।
