शम्भुमग्निमथ प्राहुब्राह्मिणा वेदपारगा: । आवसथशथ्यं द्विजा: प्राहुर्दीप्तमरग्निं महाप्रभम्‌,वेदोंके पारंगत दिद्वान्‌ ब्राह्मण “शम्भु' तथा “आवसथ्य” नामक अग्निको देदीप्यमान तथा महान्‌ तेज: पुछ्जसे सम्पन्न बताते हैं

śambhum agnim atha prāhur brāhmaṇā vedapāragāḥ | āvasathyaṃ dvijāḥ prāhur dīptam agniṃ mahāprabham ||

മാർക്കണ്ഡേയൻ പറഞ്ഞു— വേദപാരംഗതരായ ബ്രാഹ്മണർ ‘ശംഭു’ എന്ന പേരിലുള്ള പാവകനെ പ്രസ്താവിക്കുന്നു. ദ്വിജന്മാർ ‘ആവസഥ്യ’ എന്ന പേരിലുള്ള മറ്റൊരു അഗ്നിയെയും—ദീപ്തനും മഹാപ്രഭയുമുള്ളവനായി—പറയുന്നു.
