अग्निनाम-प्रादुर्भावः प्रायश्चित्त-विधानं च

तत्रैव रमते बुद्धिस्ततः पापं चिकीर्षति । जो किसी बहानेसे धर्माचरण करता है, वह वास्तवमें धर्मकी आड़ लेकर धन चाहता है। द्विजश्रेष्ठ। जब धर्मके बहानेसे धनकी प्राप्ति होने लगती है, तब उसकी बुद्धि उसीमें रम जाती है और उसके मनमें पापकी इच्छा जाग उठती है
tatraiva ramate buddhis tataḥ pāpaṃ cikīrṣati |
അവിടെയേ അവന്റെ ബുദ്ധി ആ ലാഭത്തിൽ തന്നെ മഗ്നമാകുന്നു; പിന്നെ പാപം ചെയ്യാനുള്ള ആഗ്രഹം ഉണരുന്നു. ഏതെങ്കിലും മറവിൽ ധർമ്മാചരണം ചെയ്യുന്നവൻ യഥാർത്ഥത്തിൽ ധർമ്മത്തിന്റെ മറവിൽ ധനം തേടുന്നതാണ്, ദ്വിജശ്രേഷ്ഠാ. ധർമ്മത്തിന്റെ പേരിൽ ലാഭം ലഭിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങുമ്പോൾ, അവന്റെ ബുദ്ധി അതിൽ തന്നെ രമിക്കുന്നു; മനസ്സിൽ അധർമ്മവാസന ഉണരുന്നു.
