Educational Q&A

Devotion is universal and many-formed, and hardships endured in seeking the divine can become instruments of future good. The passage also teaches divine immanence: the same supreme Self is present in all beings—moving and unmoving—and even cosmic figures like Brahmā are portrayed as dependent expressions of that supreme reality.

A deity addresses a brahmin who has approached after undergoing difficulties. The deity reassures him that his suffering is meaningful and beneficial, then expands the vision to a cosmic perspective: all that the brahmin has seen in the world is a manifestation of the deity’s own Self, culminating in a statement of supremacy over Brahmā.
