अध्याय १९० — वामदेव-वाम्य-वृत्तान्तः
The Vāmadeva Horses Episode and the Ethics of Promise
काम क्रोधं च हर्ष च भयं मोहं तथैव च । ममैव विद्धि रोमाणि सर्वाण्येतानि सत्तम
kāmaṃ krodhaṃ ca harṣaṃ ca bhayaṃ mohaṃ tathaiva ca | mamaiva viddhi romāṇi sarvāṇy etāni sattama, madvidhānena vihitā mama deha-vihāriṇaḥ | mayā ’virbhūta-vijñānā viceṣṭante na kāmataḥ ||
ദേവൻ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു—ഹേ സത്തമാ! കാമം, ക്രോധം, ഹർഷം, ഭയം, മോഹം—ഇവയെല്ലാം എന്റെ ദേഹത്തിലെ രോമങ്ങളെന്നപോലെ അറിയുക. എന്റെ വിധാനത്താൽ തന്നെയാണ് അവ സ്ഥാപിതമായിരിക്കുന്നത്; എന്റെ സത്തയിൽ തന്നെയാണ് അവ വിഹരിക്കുന്നത്. ഞാൻ ജീവികളിൽ ജ്ഞാനം വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുമ്പോഴേ അവർ പ്രവർത്തനശേഷിയുള്ളവരാകൂ; അല്ലെങ്കിൽ സ്വന്തം ഇച്ഛയാൽ ഒന്നും ചെയ്യാൻ അവർക്കാകില്ല.
